Nepotism

Nepotism refers to the practice of giving preferential treatment to relatives or friends, especially by offering them jobs. It is derived from the Italian word “nepotismo,” which is related to the Latin term “nepos,” meaning “nephew” or “grandchild.” Historically, the term was associated with the practice of some Catholic popes and bishops, who, unable to have legitimate heirs, would appoint nephews or other relatives to important positions within the church. Over time, the concept of nepotism has expanded beyond the church to include various sectors, including politics, business, and entertainment.
